| One Commonwealth. One Commitment to Excellence.
This milestone represents more than a number—it represents a shared commitment to advancing the professionalism, leadership, and future of the fire service across the Commonwealth.
Through the collaborative efforts of the Pennsylvania Career Fire Chiefs Association (PACFCA) and the Pennsylvania Municipal League (PML), we are elevating the conversation around what it means to prepare, develop, and recognize today’s fire service leaders.
Effective leadership doesn’t happen by accident. It requires a continuous professional development plan that brings together an individual’s passion for the fire service with the right balance of education, training, certification, and experience.
As the birthplace of America’s fire service, Pennsylvania has a proud legacy of leadership and service. Our responsibility is to ensure that legacy continues—by promoting uniform professional standards for both volunteer and career fire service leaders and creating meaningful opportunities for growth.
This voluntary credentialing program helps bridge the gap between individual and department-level recognition programs already operating throughout Pennsylvania. It provides another professional development pathway while supporting and reinforcing existing statewide initiatives, including the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s voluntary firefighter certification program.
"We will continue to push the needle forward, raise the standard, and invest in the leaders who will carry Pennsylvania’s fire service into the future." - Chief Thomas O'Donnell, President, Pennsylvania Career Fire Chiefs Association
